Immaculate Conception

Funerals

After your loved one has passed away, please contact us so that we can pray for the soul of your loved one. If you would like to have the funeral at Immaculate Conception, please let us know, and we will do our best to accommodate your wishes. If you have any questions at any time, please contact the parish office, 414-769-2480, and speak with Paul Weisenberger.

Funeral Homes

To begin the process of planning a funeral, please contact a funeral home of your choice; they will then in turn contact us to schedule a funeral Mass.  Here are some local funeral homes:

Heritage-Tyborski 414-744-7039
Max A. Sass & Sons 414-282-4050
Prasser-Kleczka 414-483-2322
Suminski 414-744-5156

Once you have contacted a funeral home, they will arrange a time with us.  When we have set the time and date, our parish office will be in contact with you regarding additional planning.

Readings

Selections must be made for the first, second and Gospel readings, in addition to the responsorial psalm. Following are options for each reading:

First Reading
First Reading During Easter Season
Second Reading
Responsorial Psalm
Gospel Reading

Music

Family of the deceased may select songs for the Gathering, Psalm, Preparation of Gifts, Communion and Closing. Usually songs expressing eternal life, resurrection, comfort, and faith are chosen. Songs of the season (Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter) can also be considered. Secular songs are best used during the wake or visitation.

Options for songs can be viewed HERE.

Participant Roles

Readers of Scripture may be family members. There are usually an Old Testament reading and a New Testament Epistle reading, and a Gospel reading done by the priest. One or two people could fill these roles. If the family prefers, the parish can provide a reader for the funeral Mass. The Intercessions may be read by a family member or by the presiding priest.

A minimum of 2 people are needed to bring the bread and wine to be offered for consecration at the Preparation of the Gifts. They are brought from the small table placed in the crossing at the middle of the church nave to the altar and handed to the priest and servers.

Family or friends who are communion ministers at Immaculate Conception or other parishes may assist in the distribution of Communion. They should be people who are familiar with this role at Mass.

Pall bearers are chosen by the family with the consultation of the funeral director. They escort the casket into and out of the church as needed.

Family members may assist the funeral director in placing the pall on the casket at the beginning of the funeral Mass.

Paul Weisenberger, Director of Worship, will contact the family to discuss their wishes for the funeral. Families may wish to meet in person or this may be done over the telephone, whichever is best for the family.

“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”

Matthew 11:28-30
